Today, it is possible to mass-produce pizza so that it tastes like it came straight from the local pizzeria. “Working with our machine manufacturer in southern Germany, we have developed technology that does just that,” stated Andreas Czayka who, along with Holger Pitsch, is one of the two managing partners at HASA GmbH, based in Burg. The company’s headquarters has been located in the city’s industrial park since 2006. The facility there currently produces 48 million pizzas per year, which means the Hasa bakers are responsible for 12% of all store-brand pizzas in this market segment. However, as Andreas Czayka further remarks, the company is not about to rest on its laurels: Substantial investments are being made and a second production line is expected to be in operation soon. Anyone who drives past the industrial park will hardly miss the construction on the new deep-freeze, high-bay warehouse. Once the facilities have been put into service, the company will be able to produce 100 million frozen pizzas. When all is said and done, €13 million will have then been invested and the number of employees will have grown from the current 112 to around 150. The company has settled in the Burg industrial park for two reasons: The location’s easy accessibility and the open attitude of the region’s people. Beginning in the late summer of next year, the company anticipates adding trainees in the areas of business administration and food technology.
